FEBRUARY2012 NEWSLETTERIf like me you missed Neil Francis (bass) and Phil Laslett (drums) on BBC Radio 3 you can catch them with Dave Robinson (vibes) and myself at the Gate Inn, Marshside on Thursday, 16 February - free admission, starting at 8.30 p.m. We are also determined to keep our six piece band Brass Tacks going and we are at the Louis Armstrong, Dover on Sunday, 26 February, again an 8.30 p.m. start and admission free - same line up as the quartet plus Bill Robinson (trumpet) and Martyn Rawbone (trombone). News soon of some special events to celebrate Jackie Bowles 50 years of presenting live music at the Louis Armstrong through thick and thin. See gig list for other jazz engagements. Recently at the Friday lunchtime sessions at the Two Brewers, Whitstable, a jazz group from Simon Langton's School played through the interval - very well rehearsed and impressive and encouraging that another generation is keeping the flame alight. At the same session trumpeter Steve Waterman was brave enough to sit in following the formidable John Shepherd. Also at Two Brewers on 17 February sax player George Reid makes a come back after illness. We wish him well and I hope to be along in support. In September I have a weekend playing at a festival in Borkum, Germany. Hope to see you at the Gate or the Louis Armstrong gigs. Dave |
